Proved to be an ideal walk for the resumption for our walks this year; not too long, sunny and peaceful. We left it too late to get a booking at The Plough at Stalisfield Green - picnicked nearby. 2 on the walk.
After various timetable changes by GWR leading up to the walk, the 10:15 out of Paddington proved perfect for a short wait for the connecting train at Didcot. Only one ventured from central London to be met at Didcot by a local to go onto Appleford. The Fleur de Lys easily accommodated us outside for lunch. Unfortunately The Little Wittenham Bridge was closed resulting in a significant diversion to continue our walk back to Didcot. All said a good day out with the occasional light shower in the afternoon.
Proved to be a really enjoyable walk through the Green Belt for the 3 of us. Having passed by Kenley aerodrome (now used by Surrey Hills Gliding Club), we found a shady spot on a hill nearby and decided to have a packed lunch here in this peaceful spot, given that the Fox PH* may not be able to accommodate us. It proved ideal as we sat in silence for three quarters of an hour watching the gliders in the distance.
*Further on we did stop for a drink at the crowded Fox PH.
After a summer break, this short Chilterns walk was an easy resumption. Just 2 of us on the walk. Unfortunately The Bell at Chartridge was not serving food on that day; we continued onto Chesham for a late lunch.
Started off dull and overcast. Stopped for a lunchtime coffee at Exceat - skies having now cleared. Warm sunshine for our picnic on the first cliff (Haven Brow) east of Cuckmere Haven. Saw a two spitfire flypast over Beachy Head. 3 of us on this walk plus a well behaved and quiet dog.
Weather blustery and showers. Good to reach the Travellers Rest for our lunchtime stop. Partly as a consequence of our extended lunctime time stop plus the weather not improving that much we took the decision to shorten the walk by finishing at Thatcham. (3 on this walk.)
A really enjoyable walk for the year end tnrough peaceful countryside. We had a leisurely Christmas lunch at the Rose & Crown, Burwash and a Christmas drink at Robertsbridge. A great start to the Christmas and New Year break. (2 on the walk.)
